Security and fire checklist before schools open

1. Look at the fire alarm panel's display to see if there is a fault or “disabled” warning.
2. Run a test with at least one manual call point on each floor; check that the sounder can be heard in all hallways.
3. In classrooms that were painted or had their ceilings changed during summer renovation, check whether the detectors were left covered.
4. Make sure no desks, cabinets or materials are piled in front of fire doors and emergency exits.
5. Check whether the camera recorder shows a disk warning; open and watch last night's recording.
6. Check whether tree branches that grew over the summer are blocking the view of the yard and entrance cameras.
7. Update the bell and announcement system's clock to the new class schedule; test the emergency announcement once.
8. In boarding schools, see that the strobes and night sounders in the dormitory hallways work.
9. Check who has the camera and alarm passwords, and whether access has been revoked for staff who have left.
10. Make sure the evacuation plan drawings are up to date and posted on every floor.
