Getting outdoor cameras ready for winter and power cuts

1. Check that the covers of the outdoor cameras' junction boxes are in place and their seals are intact.
2. Clean dust and spider webs off the camera lens; in night vision, webs blur the picture.
3. Find places where cables are sagging on the wall, have come out of their conduit or have cracked in the sun.
4. Check whether the recorder and modem are connected to a UPS; if the UPS shows a battery warning, replace the battery.
5. Test once to see how long the cameras and recording keep going when the power is cut.
6. Turn on the night view; note the corners where the lighting has changed or the infrared is not enough.
7. Check whether cameras on poles and brackets exposed to the wind are shaking.
8. Check the recorder's time and date settings; the correct time matters when you search the recordings later.
9. Update the monitoring app on your phone and make sure you have the password saved.
